Ode to Insomnia

I am lying in bed thinking about shutting the lights off

If I don't now I will sooner or later

there is a unique solace in darkness

total lack of visual stimuli

this allows the imagination to run free

feral

revealing true lies

the darkness is also your fear

regret

the unknown

we always reject darkness in favor of the light

in fear of what they cannot see

people like what it is they can conceive

and reject what they cannot

but at the end of the day

embracing the unknown so that it may become the known is the only way I know

to get

some

fucking

sleep.
