SAND CASTLE IN THE HOURGLASS

By Rob Garcia

From the grand sand castle in the hourglass,

I watch the entropy of time unravel,

Escapisms to the past

With dark visions of the future

While stuck in the present,

Although these concepts are irrelevant while floating through the infinite.

*

I witness the birth and death of stars,

Painting the cold black canvas of space with their nebula rainbows,

The rubble forming railroads that lead to nowhere.

*

I witness the rise and fall of beasts and civilizations,

Replaced by successors made by Nature,

Even some made by their own design.

*

This cycle continues until there is nothing left,

No one left to remember their legacies except for me,

As I write their story across the sand castle walls,

Protected by this hourglass,

Making me the most and least powerful being to exist.
