Sand Bucket

A Poem

Sand bucket

The empty vessel that promised so much

just like this trip

fill the void with hope, the sun breaks

upturned and set

here a truth

the great reveal

there proudly stands my castle

no, like all it is unstable

wept the sky

wept I

the sea as well

eroding my defences

the sea reclaims it all, but wait

father brings a spade, mother hides the bane

an umbrella next

we will fight it all

refill the void

the cloud breaks and so does the spade

there will be no more chances

upturned and set

the great reveal

the truest test

panpipes and fanfares

a victory

hurry out for ice cream

but wait I scream

the sea you'll see

father again

with hands like spades

the moat is dug the day is won

now let us promenade.
