Salt Memory

The slow silent sea

Salt Memory

Night leans heavy over the water,

a slow and restless breathing moving through it,

dark folds rising and falling without warning,

carrying things never spoken aloud.

Air turns cold against the chest,

each breath tasting of distance and old sorrow,

a shoreline stretched thin as a question,

left waiting far too long for an answer.

Footsteps fail to hold their place,

edges soften, then disappear completely,

names once carried with meaning dissolve,

slipping quietly beneath the turning tide.

Memory gathers in the swell,

dark foam pressing at the edges of thought,

something almost returns for a moment,

then falls away before it can be held.

Moonlight trembles across the surface,

never settling, never choosing stillness,

a fragile kind of grace drifting briefly,

gone before it can be trusted.

Silence grows until it presses inward,

louder than any voice could ever be,

filling the spaces where warmth once lived,

until even the heart feels distant from itself.

Time moves without asking permission,

dragging its weight across everything left behind,

nothing spared, nothing untouched,

just a slow erosion of what once mattered.

Still something remains beneath it all,

not hope, not longing, something quieter,

a steady presence that refuses to vanish,

even when everything else has already gone.
