Sacrificing Boundaries

Not Noble

A poem, because I don't know what else to do....

*

I have become a safe place

for other people's demons

An empathetic disgrace

giving into narcissistic freedoms

My boundaries know no limits

I sacrifice them, for the cause

Nothing I have, off-limits

a noble, modern day, Santa Claus

I've heard all the warnings

save space, for the darkness you employ

For when you turn on the charming

a successful tactic you enjoy

To live happily in a world

where hurt people, don't hurt people

And beauty is unfurled

causing a phenomenal, love ripple

But all I ever get

are the fangs, spitting your venom

The excuse is, you're upset

and I fall back into that rhythm

But I cannot take the hate you brew

when my breathing causes tension

I no longer have the fortitude

to live with this contention

It breaks my heart and wounds my soul

and you knew that it would

Because to leave, your damn control

means that I'm losing g-man too

I stayed because I love him

he isn't mine - you like to say

But the word "family" is a hypernym

and that will never go away

So, regardless, I'll be there for him

any time and any day

Living with a "phantom limb"

that kind of love, won't go away

heartbreak
