Sacrifice

Through the eyes of a human sacrifice.

By Kody PennoPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
The great grandson of a human sacrifice.

Give me bread

And some water

I'll lay my head on the block

You can have my neck

My people have a crop

Food to eat

There's mouths to feed

The sacrifice is never lost

I'm getting chills

And my hair stands up

As I set foot on morning frost

They wash my body

And comb my hair

I care not for the cost

I pay it fair

Because

Famine and disease can rot

The plague rats come in on every ship

But to the gods my soul I give

Eternal flame forever gained

It's the path that I walk

Swing true old man

Let the blade fall swift

I hope that its sharp enough

To do it with one hit

And crimson lands

On the first of winter snow

The long night is coming

But the hearth fires steady glow

Can be found in every hovel

And so I must now go

Across the bridge

Bi-frost stretched like spider webs

Skygods help me pull my sledge

As I ascend

The horns all blow and sound

And back at home

My family lives on

beyond my own

surreal poetry
