A Poem

I changed.

Became versions of myself

To fit other people's

Desires

Needs

Mine ignored.

I adjusted.

Until I became vapor

Drifting listlessly

The question

Who am I

Persistently on my lips.

I acted.

Ripping my heart

From my chest

Holding it in my hands

Still beating furiously

Held it out to you

While blood

Ran in rivers

Down my arms.

An offering

A plea

A sacrifice.

But you shuddered

And turned away.

I corrected.

Stuffing it back in

The hole no longer

A perfect fit.

My heart

Now speaks in

Irregular beats

Yearning for you

Wishing for more.

I change.

Starving.
