Rushing Towards the Sky

A Poem

It’s getting ready to leave.

I hurry to pack my things;

Every book I own,

And every stuffed animal I’ve ever played with,

Is coming with me!

It’s getting ready to leave.

There’s not much time!

So why do I stand before my bookcase,

Indecisive about which one of my beloved books

To take with me?

Take them all, already!

What the hell am I waiting for??

It’s getting ready to leave…

I hear the engines roaring.

I see the smoke billowing below

As I put everything in my little room.

But wait!

I know—I know somewhere… I’ve forgotten something…

What is it?

I must go back and get it!

It’s getting ready to leave!

Is it a toothbrush I’m forgetting?

What—body spray? Body wash? What??

I have my clothes… I think…

Oh, what is it!

It’s getting ready to leave!!

The people down below don’t realize what’s ahead of them.

Then again, neither do I.

However, they will be stuck on the ground,

As I head upward.

It’s getting ready to leave!!

All of the past years of my life

Will soon be left behind

For greater things beyond.

IT’S GETTING READY TO LEAVE!!

There’s no escaping it now!

Up and away I go!
