Runaway Before The End
A poem about the feelings of being told your life is going to end gives you.
Now is what the songs should sing about someday
Forever, they sing about yesterday
Tomorrow's a new day
Filled with mystery, or so they say
-
We cannot control the things we've done
Nor the abundance of things once considered fun
Resting beneath the warm and setting sun
From yesterday's sins, we might want to run
-
Only the aged understand that plight
Until the past comes for you, no matter how hard you fight
It's not an enemy that you'll know's there, or enters your sight
But once you stop, it's likely to get you in the night
-
Rest not too much as the days count down
And let few know of your pain as you hide your frown
Leave behind a somewhat renowned legacy to be unwound
Let not one or the other keep you from enjoying nights on the town
-
It may come to you in different forms than you might see
No matter what the brains all say, they don't know when it will be
Enjoy all the time you have, so that others fondly remember thee
And never forget to stop and smell the roses, instead of being in a hurry
-
Live with the rage of a thousand soldiers killed in battles far away
And fight what approaches you with a bill you must pay
Do everything possible to live fully, every day
And do not let the temptations of evil cause you to sway
-
Run hard and run fast, for as long as you can
Smile long and hard, and know that you ran
You did not roll over and stop being the man
Eventually, you knew, it would all be part of some master plan
-
As its icy grasp grabs you from behind
There's no face to look for, and nobody to find
As the energy drains from you, remember you were kind
As your body begins to succumb, protect your fractured mind
-
It comes for us all
From the weak to the strong who answer the call
Before it arrives, have a great time, have a ball
And with dignity, be prepared, for your time to fall
-
Escaping from fate is not done by mortal man
Even the earliest unfortunate deaths are a part of a plan
