Roses by the Wall
Roses bloom along the stone,
Red and gold and pale alone.
Climbing up with gentle grace,
Sunlight brushing every face.
Thorns are there, but none too proud,
Petals soft as summer cloud.
Old green bench beneath the shade,
Where the tea and tales are laid.
Birdsong spills from tree to tree,
Time slows down for you and me.
Hands that plant and hands that prune,
Working soft through afternoon.
Rain once fell, and roses grew,
Every drop a dream come true.
Fragrance caught on evening air,
Fills the heart and lingers there.
Some will pick and some will stay,
Watching colours fade to grey.
still they come and still they climb
Roses in their silent time
