A poem about growth

I am a potted plant.

Taken from my the vast beauty of my home -

and given a new, smaller one.

The pot.

-

I take root -

water,

earth,

air,

nourishment.

I receive what I need and begin to grow.

-

It is inevitable that I will outgrow my pot -

yet I find myself fearing

this inevitability.

"I love my pot - why would I leave it?"

I say, unaware of the fact I am becoming root bound.

I forget that I can be grateful for my pot while I’m in it,

and yet,

I will still outgrow it.

Duality.

-

Eventually I will be uprooted -

- by my own choice -

or through circumstance.

I remain grounded in the knowledge that my new pot will have more room

for me to grow.

It feels sad

and hopeful

and true

all at once.

-

Why do I fear my own inevitable growth?

I am learning

fear is an invitation to

be brave.
