Your footsteps linger in the halls of me.

I hear them long after the night has gone.

Some memories refuse to let us be.

***

The past keeps tugging softly at my sleeve,

A quiet ache I’ve tried to outrun.

Your footsteps linger in the halls of me.

***

I touch old moments hoping they might free

The version of us frozen into dawn.

Some memories refuse to let us be.

***

Your laughter curls like smoke around the key

Of every door I swore I’d close upon.

Your footsteps linger in the halls of me.

***

I keep discovering ghosts in what I see—

Faint shadows where your brighter days lived on.

Some memories refuse to let us be.

***

And though I beg the years for amnesty,

I still return to where the light felt warm.

Your footsteps linger in the halls of me—

Some memories refuse to let us be.
