Rockstar
That's ain't love
She treats you like a rockstar
She caters to your every need
Doting and praising you constantly
Taking sexy pictures of you
To show off to her friends and family
So they can see and admire
The prize she views you as.
“She what I caught? See who my boyfriend is?”
Her soul seemingly shouts
As she constantly gazes at you with adoration
And that feels so much like love when you are lonely,
But that ain't love, that is her ego feeding your ego
She is in love with the idea of who you are
Young, very good-looking, talented and successful
But she doesn't love the blood and flesh man you really are
The man who needs softness, warmth, kindness and understanding
You’ve been so disappointed and hurt by life and love and abandonment
Sometimes you don't even know who you are anymore.
But you know you can count on her adoration and worship
No matter what
You have made her dependent on you
So she can never leave
And there is security in that.
But she only idolizes you, and she will
Do anything and give up everything just to be with you
And that makes it easy for you to not
Take ownership of your own weaknesses and healing
Because, by God, she will and did
Abandon her husband, family and children
To be with you
And for the moment, that feels really special and good
It kind of feels like love
That she wants
To wait on you.
To brag about you.
To make you her entire world.
And you learn to take advantage of it
And you manipulate her
(even if you don’t mean to)
She doesn’t even realize you are not being nice.
When your teasing and joking sting her more than a little
This is not affection or love, even though you try to make it seem that way
It is the truth coming out
The slight mocking of what you see as inferior intelligence
What you see as emotional immaturity
Yet even though the asides and insinuations hurt her,
She ignores it; pretending it is affection and it is your way of showing love
Her ego demands she view it this way
Accepting the truth would hurt too much
And you know you are not being truthful
Guilt sometimes overwhelms you
That she cannot adore you enough to make you love her.
It can feel like love, but it is not
It is a hollow and empty vessel
Leaving you to hunger for realness
She only feeds your ego
She’s unable to nurture your soul.
She treats you like a rockstar
She caters to your every need
Doting and praising you constantly
That ain't love, baby
That ain't love.
