road

(to recovery)

By Sara Published 9 months ago 1 min read

the road

to recovery

is strewn

with shards of a mirror

that cut your feet

and swollen ankles

because you will

always get there

tomorrow.

you will watch

the sun sink

along with your heart

because you have not

given up

yet

but you want to.

you will ask yourself

every morning

why it is still dark

and every night

you will lie with your

eyes wide open.

you will cry

a river

so you can cross

to the other side

only to find

more tears.

you will part

your lips

and silence

your mind

but the voices

will never leave you.

why?

you will see

a stranger

in your bed

and sleep there

anyway

in a body

that is not yours

in clothes

that no longer fit.

it is a long road

if you choose it

it is no road

if you do not.
