River of Oblivion

Instructions for a Feeling

The river winds through the city,

deeper than it seems.

It carries sorrows and dreams,

painful memories held,

locked-away for decades.

Its current stirs things up,

deep within my mind.

Stones, bound

in a wire,

draw aquatic life

into an uneven struggle.

Stones hurled - a false facade

of everyday existence.

Deep in the river, it all clicks,

unrestrained in nature's realm

while we chase oblivion.

Birds are oblivious to all this.

They splash around in the pond,

innocent and full of scorn

for one another,

with nowhere else to be.

After the fight, everything seems wrong.

Feathers drift away,

dancing on the breeze,

frozen in the fight or flight,

midair freeze.

Who will gather them now?

These fragments scattered, lost to every shore?

Unseen, unheard, they fade

from all once known.

Now buried in the sand,

forgotten, out of place.
