A poem

Tears veil my eyes

From the slowly

Rising smoke.

-

The street lights

Don’t clean me.

City lights just

Deceived me.

-

My soul is crushed,

Believe me,

Been bereft since

Those mean streets.

-

A serpent’s kiss

Saw me disdain trained and

Shame filled.

-

Just look at

All of the

Blood spilled.

-

Waking nightmares,

A new Hell,

A new place to drown

Almost the same as the prior.

-

I swim a little lower,

But find myself going higher.
