The rise and fall
The up, the down
The inner battle returns
It follows me, consumes me,
It tries to tear me up from the inside out
The heat comes to surface, leaving me to crash and burn...
But I will rise, and to rise, one must fall first
How do we continue to climb, if there is nothing to conquer, anyways?
How do we find ourselves, if we don’t get lost along the way?
Wandering through this maze of my mind, finding small moments of escape, only to feel trapped once again
But trapped, I won’t stay
For this life is a constant series of the rise, and the fall
Fall, but always rise

Reaching Out
I promise her. I'd do anything for her. She's my mom. Even as Lanie and Deanna are flying home, Mom is scrappy fighting dying. She lays too still in that too-big bed with all the toasty white hospital blankets, in the south tower, at the broad end of a long slow-turning corner that delivers me again to her private room with the view she can't see through, with the beeping that tells us nothing new, and all these ice chips she can't swallow, and a flood of well-intentioned nurses who cannot do a damned thing all the same.
