Ripples

...of a ritual

Calm as glass and covered in night

I gave all my time and invested my might

to give him a place to overcome this great fight

not knowing how fast the win would take flight

I had so much hope

we were both so engrossed

we felt like this time it would come to a close

But monsters aren't kind

they scream when they're losing

take hold of whatever edge they could be using

to tear us back down

to tear us to shreds

to make us feel worthless, defeated again

But who makes these rules?

Are they for real?

Why do they penetrate all that we feel?

To escape this madness once and for all

perhaps we need more than a night in the fall

perhaps we need to surrender some things

like power, control, and the right to be clean

Maybe the cleansing that we both need

is deeper than any our mind could conceive

And if I accept that this is in fact so,

I know there's good news

I know there is One who can fit in those shoes

to fill in the role that the monster had held

to give me and him a true way to be healed

He offered Himself

a most perfect, pure lamb

to be given in turn for our broke, sodden sham

Our pain, it goes deep, and we have no rest

but deep were the nails and spear to His chest

The sorrow we've felt over things we can't fix

He felt as He hung on the first crucifix

There are things in this world that overcome us

or so it seems

They lie and cheat and convince us we're gonners

but they come from the losing side,

the side of the Liar

So how do we transfer this moment of struggle

from lodged in our hands

to stashed in His plans?

It will take time

after all it's a whole shift

that encompasses mind, body, soul and the gift

of the One who is Right

of the One who is True

of the One who will one day after all this come through.

And so I shall wait

and listen

pray

hope and obey

He is my direction and He is my peace

He shall be the way for us all to release

to let go

to let God

and to be free
