RIP: Love

by Sam Harty

I don't think I have accepted that you're gone.

Sleeping alone feels like drowning in the space you left.

Forever was a lie you whispered sweetly in the dark.

Now I lie alone in this bed feeling bereft.

💔💔💔💔💔💔

I toss and turn at night, calling out your name.

Still your name taste good between my lips.

I wake to find only shadows left behind.

My pillow now your makeshift hips.

💔💔💔💔💔💔

I walk to the park, once our place of love.

Looking for your presence, or of it any hint.

There are new benches and freshly painted swings

and now flowers grow in your footprints.

💔💔💔💔💔💔

Your absence drowns out all the playing children.

I cannot hear our laughter any more.

Your last words linger inside my head

When you told me life with me was now a bore.

💔💔💔💔💔💔

Forever was a lie you whispered sweetly in the dark

When our love story was merely a footnote in your life.

I thought we'd last forever in love together

But then you cut us apart with words sharp as a knife.

💔💔💔💔💔💔

My bed is an empty hollow space with no one to hold.

Once yours, I now have a constant throb in my head.

Your shadow dances upon the walls, but you're not here.

Binding me to memories of a love so easily pronounce dead.
