Right now, I am breathing.

I couldn't before.

The necklace is too tight.

I can't get it off.

Has this shirt shrunk?

Off, off, it needs to come off.

Right now, I am laughing.

Before, I was sobbing into my mom's shoulder

and grasping at my throat,

reaching for the air fear was ripping away.

There's nothing around my throat now.

Why can't I breathe?

Breathe, breathe.

You're okay now, breathe.

Right now, I am smiling.

But if you look closer,

my eyes are puffy,

but I'm hoping my smile distracts you from that.

***

Right now, in my mind

I'm wondering where I threw my necklace

and if I want to find it again.
