Right Lens
smile for the camera
there you are
next to her in photos
smiling
standing close
like warmth isn't something you ration
your hand on her back
your face open
every angle saying
trust me
it’s convincing
in the right light
through the right lens
she's looking straight ahead
probably thinking
this is what friendship looks like
oblivious
unaware that earlier
you reduced her to a caricature
that's when it clicks
it was never about me
I was never too much
it was always about the audience
careful with your words in public
careless in private
kind in pictures
until someone
gets cropped out
About the Creator
Tina D. Lopez
Finally realizing I need to start acting like the main character in my own life. Writing helps me figure out where I keep losing the plot and giving away my spotlight. My story is a big mix of drama, comedy, tragedy, thriller, and, horror.
