RETURN OF THE POPPIES

Scarlet fields stitched into green,
A sight we thought we'd never see.
When men made war on every weed,
Poppies could not sow their seed.

But time has calmed those poisoned years;
We learned our progress carried tears.
Now every bloom has room to grow—
Our poppies stand, alive, aglow.
