Forever Running One Step at a Time

Let me begin to re-jog my memory.
I started from my apartment
and was ready to run
around New York City.
I saw people I knew,
smiled as I went by.
I waved hi,
and I kept the runners high
as I still had more miles to do.
Then it started to drizzle,
but my energy didn’t fizzle.
Yet, I started feeling my body
take on the pavement
and to my amazement,
I kept seeing more and more
of the streets that I ran before.
And then came the turn.
After running 23 miles,
I stepped into the park
and I think it might’ve been
the first, second, or third step
as I went to take on the final loop -
I was awakened to a reality
by a painful feeling.
Then moving forward -
hope would have to be the truth.
