Remnants of the past
tickle my memory.
Some good,
bringing a smile to my face,
reminding me of a time and place
when I was happy and carefree,
when I didn’t feel
like the world was constantly crushing me.
But some are bad…
The crushing blows
of loss and pain.
Things I hoped
to never go through again,
but somehow
they live on
in my mind
and soul.
The good,
I want to remember.
The bad,
I want to release.
Let me be free
from these dreaded memories.
Let me keep the pieces
that remind me
I once knew happiness—
without carrying
everything that broke me
along with them.
