Childhood Memories

I remember the times when I was glad,

Childishly happy and rarely sad.

I knew not of troubles, work, or strife,

Unknowing of all the woes of life.

I did not know what lay ahead,

If I did, I would have lived in dread,

For this life I live is full of pain,

Gradually making me insane.

My life is filled with sadness and hurt,

No room exists to insert

Happiness or some peace of mind

Or anything else of that kind.

As I look back at these times of bliss,

The times which I now terribly miss,

I wish that I could return to my youth

Instead of living this awful truth,

Where nothing ever seems to go right

In this endless, miserable fight.
