As the Sun Sinks

There is a wondrous song flowing through my brain.

Violas, strings, and large kettle drums in the distance

draw my Self out of the boxes

and send me whirling through space.

In my world, the Beloved and I sit in the hot tub

in this wintry landscape sipping hot Coco

laced with Butterscotch Schnapps,

and all that we can hear are laughter

and the bubbling jets releasing tension

from all the right places.

We plash the water in each other's faces,

making sure not to injure the drinks,

rough each other up a bit,

invite a passing deer and moose, a bear or two in.

The Water becomes a furrow of waves

and movement

with bear wrestling moose,

the deer, with no thumbs,

trying drink from the bottle frustrated

because the humans just don't understand.

We think he has had a few too many.

Eyes squeezed half shut, he shouts,

"Remember Bambi!"

After the fury the world stands still.

We sit all day laughing and joking,

soaking in the warmth of the water

telling tall tales about our lives on Earth,

trapped in time and space

As the sun begins to set

and the moon rises slowly

above the horizon,

the Beloved invites them in too.

"This tub its really going to get crowded,"

the moose says almost to herself,

"and very, very hot."

The moon blushes

as the sun descends in a pair...of Speedos.
