Getting past them

Words left unsaid

Times when silence would have been a better choice

Promises made and not kept

Actions best left avoided

These are regrets that can pester and haunt

Thoughts and dreams,

Hopes for the future

*

Regrets can eat away respect and perhaps morality

Regrets can ruin self-confidence and relationships

- yet -

Regrets can teach one to improve one's words and actions

*

You can live in the past,

Sorry for the things you should or shouldn't have

Said or done

Or you can live in the now,

Promising yourself to become a better person

I choose the latter.

*

Author's note: I realize this sounds simplistic. If you harbor a deep regret, that may take more than "living in the now." May you find peace.
