regret(s)

missing my friend

By angela hepworthPublished 8 days ago 1 min read

in my wildest dreams

you meet me in the ladies room

and hold my gaze again

you take my hand in the mirror

and your fingers crush my bones to rubble

for once, you smile at your own reflection

and no one else’s

you make me fuss with your perfect hair

before you tell me to stop

and i do

you lead me out and away from here

you’re selfish with me

you take me wherever you want to go

you don’t think

you don’t say a word

and like your knight in shining armor

i stay at your side

to provide for you

to protect you

to make it all up to you

no matter how long it takes

no matter what i have to do

i would put it all on the line

to erase the past i’ve corrupted

to unwrench this knife of regret from my back

i wish for you to twist and turn it

before you rip it clean from me

i wish for all of your hate before your love

i need your anger, not your silence

i need to know how much you despise me

for leaving you all alone

to exist in your presence

for only a moment again

may be enough

for i need you here again

yet only in my dreams

do you come back

Super intense! Don't ask me how I can relate to this so well...😥 Writing makes for great therapy.

  • Friendship breakups are wayyyyyy worse than relationship breakups. I'm so sorry you had to go through this 🥺 Sending you lots of love and hugs ❤️

Ah this is so heartbreaking, Angela! Silence is the worst thing...and not having a chance to rectify mistakes. Found this very relatable. Beautifully penned, if very sad.

  • Is heartache not the deepest emotion we can feel. You really brought that across in this poem

And silence speaks more than words. Anger is far easier to deal with. Well said, my dear.

A poignant poem, painful to read if one understands how eloquent some silences can be, and how parched and arid others are.
