Red Flag Progress

A Monday Poem

Shall we run the human condition

Through the view of a thing with no eyes?

Will that give us clarity into the ache

Of existence or will it dampen the fear

That all things end until we forget that we

Are on a very tight timetable here?

.

The schedule cannot be shifted but

There is sand in my shoes sliding around.

I can taste it in my teeth and it makes me

Wonder if I have been buried in the dirt

This entire time, ignorant and naive,

Hungry for the sunlight I threw away.

.

There is nothing innate about offshoring humanity,

Nothing normal about bleeding compassion

Into a gutter of piss and pollution and poison.

So, shall we march into the meatgrinder now,

Sacrifice our little thoughts and forget death,

And hunt this bull's cape, red flag progress?
