Record Breaking

Honey sweet and just as sticky

The poisonous bliss

Veracity once hidden

In reality’s nuance

Insincerity dripping

Like melted gold

From crimson lips

So enticing

It’s no wonder few are able

To refocus and see

The source of the truths

⋆⁺₊⋆ ━━━━⊱༒︎ • ༒︎⊰━━━━ ⋆⁺₊⋆

A broken Victrola needle

Skipping in place

Repeating the same stirring line

A heart-pounding Aria

In time to the kicks

I now repeat in a growing line

The sharper the kick, the

Shinier the dime

⋆⁺₊⋆ ━━━━⊱༒︎ • ༒︎⊰━━━━ ⋆⁺₊⋆

Pay is calculated based

On ticking time

So the needle drops

With a scratch in the

Endless vibrato over again, like

Your favorite movie-filled

With senile groundhogs

The longer it goes on

The harder you look

⋆⁺₊⋆ ━━━━⊱༒︎ • ༒︎⊰━━━━ ⋆⁺₊⋆

Life becomes more surreal

More disgusting like

Pigs being sent to the

Slaughterhouse

Every bit ground

Into ballpark dogs

Memory making meat

Hitting it out of the park

⋆⁺₊⋆ ━━━━⊱༒︎ • ༒︎⊰━━━━ ⋆⁺₊⋆

Going home to the backyard

Deer haunch

Thrown over the fence

Like I lived in the garbage bin

Guess it was near enough

Grandpa took hold of it

Bare handed

Hauled it out to the curb

Rotting, stinking, flies buzzing

⋆⁺₊⋆ ━━━━⊱༒︎ • ༒︎⊰━━━━ ⋆⁺₊⋆

Never did go hunting

Now we all just sit drinking tea

Filled with bobbing chunks

Of white cracked ice

In this record-breaking heat

Listening to voices melt

Filling in the grooves

With freshly zested lime
