She broke the chains
And smashed the glass
Meant to control,
Meant to conceal-
A new voice rising
With the realization of value
Of perceived plans
And a squandering of treasure,
A blind eye that overlooked
All that had passed,
The colors that had faded
From a fruitful mind-
She regained a throne
She had stepped away from
Pulled by a story painted
By hands never holding reins
Like those that had scarred
Her once soft palms-
Her voice rang true,
Carried easily by wind
Towards the clan she had left behind
In an attempt to claim
A future that was never hers,
That she never wanted
Despite flippant thoughts
Whispered into her ear
By a serpent thought angel-
She rose
Glowing gold in morning light
As her back turned on the night
And she faced the life
She was meant to have,
Adjusting her crown
As she walked among the forest
To the welcome birdsong.
