Ingredients:
- 1 cup urad dal (split black lentils)
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- Oil for frying
Instructions:
- Rinse 1 cup of urad dal (split black lentils) under running water until the water runs clear.
- Soak the urad dal in water for about 4 hours or overnight.
- Drain the water and grind the urad dal in a blender or food processor until it becomes a smooth paste.
- Add 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp red chili powder, and 1/2 tsp baking soda to the paste.
- Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
- Add a little water at a time and knead the mixture until it becomes a smooth dough. The dough should be firm but pliable.
- Divide the dough into small, equal-sized balls.
- Roll out each ball into a thin disc using a rolling pin.
- Place the rolled papadum on a flat, clean surface and let it dry for about 30 minutes. This will make the papadum firm and easy to handle.
- Heat oil in a deep frying pan or kadhai on medium-high heat.
- Once the oil is hot, add the rolled papadum one at a time and fry until it turns light golden brown in color.
- Using a slotted spoon, remove the papadum from the oil and place it on a paper towel to remove any excess oil.
- Repeat the process with the remaining rolled papadum.
- Serve the papadum with your favorite dip or chutney.
- Your delicious Papadum is now ready to serve! Enjoy!
