Shared Exhaustion

Chasing a nap

In the low, olive-green fainting bed.

Legs splayed on the floor – her boots long and heeled -

Wearing a black everything – blazer, pants and tight blouse -

Exchanged from the hours long so

Nice with a painting -

A brush and the bottom of a plastic box

Thick with colorful paint.

Dejectedly letting the mind and the body settle after

Such relentless exhaustion shared

With another – retying her hair -

A shared exhaustion before quietly

Returning in whatever else let them

Recharge; a glass of wine

Spanish/Korean soap operas

Working out, reading nonfiction, Jazz -

Thelonious Monk until another

Real exhaustion

All to rise,

Rejuvenated to do it all again.
