Read Me

Like an open book

My tale

Already written

Sight transfixed on the mirror

Expertly transcribing

Every wispy letter

š“‚ƒšŸ–Š

Initially blurry and

Difficult to interpret

The longer I force tired

Eyes to stare into my

Own steeled expression

The easier deciphering

Backward muddled text

Becomes

š“‚ƒšŸ–Š

Training myself to read

Between lines

Pick out pictures

Hidden in words

So I can render those

Hazy images faithfully

š“‚ƒšŸ–Š

Resetting my gaze

Opens up new chapters

In a secret chronicle

Unraveling as I study

š“‚ƒšŸ–Š

The surface is so

Easily read by any eye

Passing over

The meat and bones

The heart of the matter

Buried under pages of filler

One could spend days flipping

Reading nothing but

What was consciously prepared

For prying eyes

š“‚ƒšŸ–Š

I have spent a lifetime

Learning the language of

Stories untold

Watching pain on faces unfold

Like a map to the agonizing

Treasure hoard of my past

Cyphered and hidden in

Endless ordinary chatter

Jotted down on the

Blank sheets of my soul

š“‚ƒšŸ–Š

A journal of experience

A ledger bearing the

Accounts of days ripped

From the shiny

Vellum of my mind

Tattooed on my

Fragile, papery skin with

Ink distilled from

The essence of innocence

Drawn up as a shield

Hiding my reality

Even from me

š“‚ƒšŸ–Š

I long for the day

My story crescendos

~Fin~

My saga finally translated

Available in hard and paperback

š“‚ƒšŸ–Š

For all those

Who care to continue

To feign ignorance and disgust

There will be gasps of horror

Sobs and sighs

Escaping gaping open mouths

Into the night as a newborn

Infant screams

Wailing what I spent a lifetime thinking

Fallen on their knees in

False mourning for me

Printed in my casket of

Paper and binding

š“‚ƒšŸ–Š

My final request

To be clothed in authenticity

Without feeling the haunting gaze

Of truth despised

Hearing the angry hiss

Of the doubting crowd

I will be laid to rest

Unveiled and proud

š“‚ƒšŸ–Š

My life, a fable for all those

Bold enough to leaf

Through my pages and

Heed the warnings

Woven into the

Plot as it sings
