Raw

A Poem

By Alyssa GoodeauxPublished 5 years ago • 1 min read

Day after day the mantra becomes, “Just do it.”

When going to the bathroom looks like a hike up a mountain.

When you need to reposition your bedding but the effort sends your heart into an overworked frenzy.

When talking yourself into getting your daily water is almost not worth it.

The shame and guilt are almost more crushing than the constant dizziness of hunger.

Because instead of participating in life, I have become the anchor that holds life down with me.

And the secret is too heavy to bear.
