rats

mental health poem

By creepiePublished about a year ago • 1 min read

Rats have infested my body,
wriggling throughout the cracks and crevices,
intertwining their bodies with my nerves and veins.
Filling the holes like cement,
they’ve become a part of the structure
 I have to call home.

At night, they are restless—
squirming through the cracks,
crawling their way slowly to an escape,
while I lay in wait,
waiting for an hour of peace
that will never come.

It seems endless.
They will never be content in this place,
forever trying to find something greater—
somewhere untouched by the pain.

Somewhere with beautiful forests,
and a large meadow filled with flowers,
with enough space to grow,
finally feeling free.

But for now,
they will continue to claw their way to an escape,
breaking the home down, bit by bit,
 until everything caves.
