The journey back felt longer with Lucky in his arms, but Elliot didn’t care. He’d done it. He’d found the dog, and now he just had to call the number on the flyer.
But as he walked, a nagging thought crept into his mind. What would he even do with $500? Sure, it sounded great, but was that why he’d chased Lucky all over town? He glanced down at the dog, who was now asleep in his arms.
By the time Elliot reached the corner where he’d first seen the flyer, he’d made up his mind. He didn’t need the money—not really. Someone out there was probably worried sick about Lucky, and that was enough.
