Invites itself in
Through the gaps above the window
And soaks the inside pages
Of my most beloved books.
-
The sound puts me to sleep.
-
I wake up the next day,
Feet out of bed, searching for shoes,
Finding a thin veil of water engulfing the floor instead.
-
Breathing vapour because that’s what we do now,
Heating cannot pay for itself,
And as the condensation grows more intense,
The outside world vanishes.
-
And I live in a fog of steam, breath and sweat
Whilst my fingertips freeze
Sticking to all they touch.
-
No sleep tonight — watchful eyes
Guard over what remains,
Thunder like a shotgun blast
Disturbs my tired brains.
-
A constant
-
Drip
-
Drip
-
Drip
-
Drip
-
Tapping every object
Writhing in my mind.
-
I wake up,
Screaming
But only bubbles leave my mouth.
-
A body without gravity,
A dark blue glue lagoon,
Invaded all
And
Holds me still.
-
I won’t wake up
Again.
