A Red Poem

Velvet pierces through like a septum ring gone bloody

Softness of skin yet

A jaggedness of shards pin-pricking

Crawling, creeping, a sensation that is unavoidable

Everything is gore, sore

Yet everything is savory

Bleeds down honey-like slow

Hot and sticky, pulsing

Practically uncomfortable

Like the sweat trickling down left temple

The saltiness resting on the upper lip edge

The shaking of anticipation

There is so much bursting inside

Blood vessels expanding

Energy coursing through faster than oxygen

Everything is charged with anxious excitement

Threatening to implode and detonate like a ticking-time bombed heart

Explode through piercing screams

Skin cracking open

Revealing the gory sores embedded within

Oozing, spilling over sweet

Everything is boiling

Barely comprehensible

The heat rising right up

Volcanic eruption, eyes burst wide open firework

There is so much out there, raging,

Red

Thank you for taking the time to read this poem. It has been a long time coming, part of my Colour Poem series that I started... two years ago maybe? Red was requested by Dharrsheena a way-while back, and I guess I finally had the inspiration for it. So Dharr, this is for you!

If you want to check out another poem from my Colour Series, I'd love to know which was your favorite. Also, feel free to request a colour and maybe I'll write the poem (in less than two years oops).

Well-wrought! Red as passion and pleasure, sometimes too much, sometimes leaves a mess and blood flows instead of wine, like the proverbial red rag to a bull--an urban legend, yes, but that's what we do, incite the animal to violence and blame it on the color of the cloth with which we enrage it!

WOOOOOOOO dam that was fire so intense. I saw it play out in my head so vividly what a poem

  • S.K. Wilson14 days ago

That was ... intense! Such a great beat and pace, building pressure like something red hot! Amazing work! If you haven't already, I would love to see what you do with 'Pink' 🩷

  • Oh, this was great! I love how warm the word choice was. Nothing about this was cold, it was red through and through. Loved this!

Love the descriptions in this one - so detailed, so vivid. Perfect way to describe the colour!

Oh my, where to begin? I remember that series and how I commented that I could see the colours in your words. Same here, but also the emotion, the pain, adrenaline, and the explosion. I had so many visions, like periods, childbirth, torture, passion. I swear at one point I even saw an Olympic sprinter at the starting gate. You absolutely nailed this. I'll be seeing red if it's not a TS. 👏👏
