Rage Against The Dark, Find The Light

A poem about the world.

If only some things did not exist

The pain of life more bearable

Such a common and repeated wish

But for many, it is unsharable

The daily drudge depletes us all

And all carry their secret pain

Weathering the storms before we fall

Enough to drive the strongest to the brink as they go insane

Tack on all things crazy and unforeseen

Many wonder what’s going on in this world of ours

Is it the twisted will of the fates so mean

Or those who control our lives with their evil powers

Then comes the void of things born of light

Such absences of things that keep smiles on faces

Missing things of value that keep us from the forever night

What needs we have gone, ending us in only dark places

A world so bleak and wrong what we leave for the next

Barely making good on life challenges, weeping for tomorrow

Stressed because we know it is we who left the young so vexed

There is no time to cry and express our pain, suffering, and sorrow

Tomorrow comes, another chance to do it right, to not fail

Another day comes, and it tests your soul, tests the measure of your might

And it will take all your might, all your will, and your pain will pale

Again, ending in perpetual night

A world so full, and you can not feel the warmth of its light

Leaders lie, governments cheat, and futures look so bleak

Together is long gone, lost in the fight

A world that crushes even the strongest of souls, leaving them to feel weak

All the world’s a game

And a game that we all try to play

First, we must all realize that the world is not the same

It’s a world where the strong survive, or so they say

But a world that crushes and spits you out

It beats you down to a pulp and keeps you there

No matter how much you scream and shout

The world just never feels fair

It pushes and pulls you in every which way

Toils with your mind and exploits what you suffer

Tests your weaknesses and hurts you each day

Between you and its ugliness, there’s not a single buffer

The world hits harder until you finally fall

With one or two punches meant to put you away

It hits harder and harder, trying to drop one and all

Testing who will weather the storm today

Will you get up tomorrow or fall into the void of night

Suffer the grief and sorrow

Or give up the endless fight

Go gently into the darkness of night, or fight again tomorrow

With weighted breath, the world does await

The decision is yours to make, but how long will you wait

Let the world beat you and succumb to the fickle hand of fate

Or get up, dust yourself off, and make today great

It's a dark world today, a dark world that has been made

Letting it swallow us is our only mistake

A dark world is made, but those rich, and those being paid

But in our world, the dark world isn’t what we have to take

Be the fixer, and seize upon your every chance

A simple act unexpected creates a light for all to see

Live and love and treat life like a great romance

In the middle of the darkness, a light there will be

Turn away from the void, holding onto the light

See the pieces in front of you

Live in a world accepting its wonder and delight

Exit the void, knowing what to do

Being kind and gentle, showing that you care

Treat little acts and things that matter like they are gold

Forever you will be, in a world that feels unfair

Your works that will matter, remembered when you are old

For all to leave a legacy, a legacy of service and kindness

Impossible, some will say

Those are the ones suffering from their blindness

You can be one of the ones, the ones remembered for forging a better day

Let not the dark world swallow you, for you can beat the night

Grieve and mourn for those falling to the dark world’s existence

Trudge on through life, going towards the light

Show the dark world its power can not beat your persistence

Context: We can view the world from one side or another. It's up to us to see the light in things or to let the world and those around us, including our leaders, shroud us in darkness. It's a choice.

"Be the fixer"... "Exit the void"... Great lines and mantras for life.

  • I'm not sure the context you provided was necessary. I think your poem made it pretty clear. Nevertheless, better to be sure I guess. In the middle of the poem, I wanted so badly to quote Meatloaf, "Let me sleep on it, baby, baby, let me sleep on it. Let me sleep on it, I'll give you my answer in the morning."

  • I RELATE TO YOUR POINT OF VIEW. I HAVE BEEN THROUGH THE DARK NIGHT OF THE SOUL, TO WAKE UP AFTER ALMOST DYING APRIL 2022. NOW I AM ALL ABOUT LIVE LOVE LAUGH LIFE BUT STILL REMEMBER THE DARK SIDE OF A REALITY OF DARK AND LIGHT
