On being

By Cynthia ChapePublished 3 years ago 1 min read

Crimson flash on winter pearled sky

Or the deep kiss planted on a blackbird's wing

Red teachings of stepping lightly into cold winds

Of giving a whole beating heart to song.

Zest curled toothy, caught bittersweet

Laughter splashed over clinking ice

The full, sweet orange of friendship

Sunrise pouring syrup thick,

Crowning tree tops yellow gold

Broken sorrow forested darkly green,

Held liquid brimming in hazel eyes

Brilliant blue beats thump rhythmic

And we move like night

Mapping the path of stars

I hang weightless over indigo cold depths

Watching storm bruised clouds bloom violet

I bend through narrow lenses

Not broken

My colors stretched to new horizons

Promising a different way.
