Quiet of the Heart

[Verse 1]
The kitchen clock turns to midnight again
There's a photo of Us on the windowsill
I pull my sweater across my shoulders
And look out onto the hills

The town is holding its breath below
The fields are grey and wide
Then the moon rises up like a silver door
And another old year steps aside

[Pre-Chorus]
I thought the morning had to find me
With the curtains thrown apart
But the first light begins much earlier
In the quiet of the heart

[Chorus]
All great beginnings start in the dark
When the moon greets you to a new day at midnight
One small breath, one steady heart
I can leave what I was and walk into my own life
If the road begins where the daylight ends
Then I’ll meet it here, where the night turns kind
All great beginnings start in the dark
When the moon says, “Go on, girl... it’s your time”

[Verse 2]
There’s frost along the garden gate
A truck sputters down the street
I hear my boots crunching on the gravel path
Keeping rhythm and time beneath me

There's No grand message shining from  the heavens
There's No hand to pull me through
Just the pale moon over the water tower
And a choice I get to choose

[Pre-Chorus]
I thought I needed all the answers
Before I dared to start
But the first step finds its footing
In the quiet of the heart

[Chorus]
All great beginnings start in the dark
When the moon greets you to a new day at midnight
One small breath, one steady heart
I can leave what I was and walk into my own life
If the road begins where the daylight ends
Then I’ll meet it here, where the night turns kind
All great beginnings start in the dark
When the moon says, “Go on, girl... it’s your time”

[Bridge]
By the time the eastern windows
Take the color of the flame
I won’t be the one who waited
For permission to change
Let the morning find me moving
Let it find me somewhere new
With the moon still at my shoulder
And the whole wide sky in view

[Final Chorus]
All great beginnings start in the dark
When the moon greets you to a new day at midnight
One small breath, one steady heart
I can leave what I was and walk into my own life
If the road begins where the daylight ends
Then I’ll meet it here, where the night turns kind
All great beginnings start in the dark
When the moon says, “Go on, girl... it’s your time”

[Outro]
The clock turns over, the fields grow pale
I take the path and follow
The moon lets go, the day comes in
I’m already on my way
