Prompted Poem: Perspective
I tried to see my own eyeball.
In a plant, a fungus,
a workout, a pill,
at the bottom of a highball
glass.
I tried to understand how my action
affected the world. My lens
remained fixed and was
so very marred by refraction.
"Ass!"
We shout together
at the car who cut us off
and sped away far too fast.
Never mind his desperate
highway race
to bring his child to the hospital.
We'll never know.
"Why can't he just relax,
go safely and slow?"
To murder ego requires parallax,
so I tried to see my own eyeball.
