Prom Dress

Chapel of Rest

By Sophia MericiPublished 9 years ago • 1 min read

I'm going to see you one last time

I'm going to see your face

But you're not there, and you never were

It's been a while since you left this place

So why do I ponder making this trip

Why am I so unsure?

Is it because I know, I'm just viewing a corpse

With a love so whole and pure?

(That it can't feel, or know of, or want

Or hope to reciprocate.)

Because your body is there

Dressed in that dress

You wore when we were sixteen

But the person I knew and loved so well

Is nowhere to be seen.

So why do I feel I should visit your body?

When it's no longer breathing or warm

I don't think it will help to calm me

Or settle this emotional storm.

I'm going to see you one last time

I'm going to see your face

(Or am I?)
