Powerful Thought Generator

My mind is far too stubborn for my liking

Lalalalalala — distraction by noise, by singing, by humming,

Pathetic!

**

My attempt; my decision not to think about it,

How did that turn out?

**

The opposite of procrastination,

Washing the kitchen floor, scrubbing the bath; keeping busy.

**

Lalalalalala — singing louder,

Dancing the two-step.

**

Hungry; standing staring into the fridge with the door held open,

No, don’t feel like that; nothing enticing.

**

The mind starts on the topic,

NO, NO, NO!

**

What was I doing?

Now I’ve forgotten. Oh, going to head out for a walk.

**

One foot in front of the other; thinking,

Maybe I should jog!

**

TV. I’ll watch my favourite show; smiling,

Until — what just happened?

**

I wonder what Mum’s up to. I’ll give her a call,

“Sorry Mum, I missed what you just said.”

**

Oh, I know. A nice warm bath and a good book,

Damn! How did the water overflow?

**

It’s time for bed,

I’m tired, exhausted; it’s been a huge day.

**

My mind tosses and turns, starts on overdrive,

Not thinking is far easier said than done!

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
