I saw you

Feral cat

You’d gotten your neck and paw clamped in some device

I saw blood, matting your glossy black fur

I wanted to help

You would not let me close

You hobbled

Away

On three good legs

Into the brush,

Through and under the brambles

I tried to follow

But only drove you deeper

Into the cruel woods

Where are you now?

I put out food

In the hopes of drawing you out

But that was days ago

And you never ate…

Did the coyotes get you?

Atleast

That’d be faster

Than starving in the cold rain
