From the Brennan Center for Justice: In legislative strategy, 41 is the magic number of United States senators needed to sustain a filibuster.

An odd number, right?

Who gets to speak and stand for...?

Never mind. It's done.

Note: some of you have been very kind with the comments on these haiku, and I will continue to keep them coming as long as I discover interesting things about various political systems. And I was very surprised that the American Senate allows this particular number to keep the filibuster rule going. And remember, a filibuster is used to block votes on bills, nothing else. It is a powerful tool and should be used carefully.

Just my thoughts...
