Poetry To Help When Writing a Book
Write haiku's to put in the beginning of the book that speak to what the book is about
Author's Note: Who said, "I Write Haiku's to begin my book. And it speaks to what my book is about. It helps me when editing!" I really don't remember who said this, and does it really matter? I tried writing some haikus about my book. It did help with my editing.
Everyday Native American Women Elders in Conversation
Talking about their yesterdays and todays
Everyday women
Talking about then
Yesterday and now
~
No everyday men
Is not a part of this then?
No, only women
~
Let’s talk yesterdays
And todays, life is about
Hardships and good times
~
We struggled through it
All historical trauma
Without some drama
~
Well, maybe a bit
How fun would that be without
And stories galore
~
Was this a big bore?
I would guess some will abhor
Okay, if it works
Authors note: Then to say something about each of the women, as they are who I had my conversations with and are all strong advocates for our people!
Elders that I know
Know so much and do much too
Always on the go
~
Everyone a star
Rose is such a pretty name
A flower is she
~
Betty has five kids
Raised them as a single mom
A strong advocate
~
Mary is my sis
Yes, adopted in our way
She is the youngest
~
Peggy lives close by
We train together yearly
My recovery sis
~
Birdie is a nurse
She's busy all of the time
Difficult to see
~
Avis is working
Her focus is our people
A strong elder lead
~
Ann is a writer
She is a storyteller
Love all her stories
Author's Note: I did the assignment and right after I did some editing. Prior, I was doing anything and everything except editing! Haiku's worked for me!
