A Poem About the Power of Poetry

How is it that poetry

Can be so poetic

The idea of death can be made to sound

So free and unapologetic

Words can be manipulated

To make the darkness seem freeing

And a bleak reality

Can be turned to something endearing

It has the capacity

To question if we are sane

One glimpse at the beauty of sadness

And it is hard to be happy again

Then there on the other hand

As love is so magically proclaimed

Our hearts sore through the heavens

And romanticism cannot be tamed

Tears fall of anguish

Of loss, happiness, pain or joy

An ocean of our emotions

That can save us or destroy

The parts of us we keep hidden

The shadows lurking below

Because poetry has the ability

To unleash parts of us we don’t yet know
