Poem for Jeffrey Archer (1940 - 2026)

The Final Scumset

Still Confused, Sir?

A nice touch, Baron. Right in time for Nobel week,

I discovered that you had passed away.

Maybe it was just the clichés and the reek

of your work that made me say,

“Hmph, well, another one done by time.”

Not a sweet and pleasant eulogy;

not the words to share with the line,

“Here was a fellow writer!” But, you see,

I knew the films, the success, the prostitute,

the desperation for the title of PM or mayor.

You wanted to fix your name in time (so astute).

But that is not what you get, you failure.

A fraud deserves no greater fate

than to say at the end, “Too late.”
